Beware of Hypocrisy
Beware of Hypocrisy
Text: Matt. 6:1-18
Date: 5/10/2026
Preacher: Tyler Kerley
The desire to be seen is one of the most fundamental human desire. Whether it is a child saying, “Watch me!” or Sally Field’s famous (though often misquoted) Oscar acceptance speech, “You like me! You really like me!” we all feel the need to be seen.
However, this good, natural desire can be corrupted. Jesus calls this corrupted desire hypocrisy. In this passage, Jesus warns us against the dangers of religious hypocrisy. Hypocrisy is dangerous because ...
- it craves man’s applause,
- it rejects the Father’s approval, and
- it misses the Christian’s reward.
