Salt and Light
Salt and Light
Text: Matt. 5:13-16
Date: 4/12/26
Preacher: Tyler Kerley
The Sermon on the Mount is perhaps the most famous speech of all time, let alone the most famous sermon. Throughout the season of Easter, we are going to be studying the Sermon on the Mount, beginning this morning in Matthew 5:13-16, with the images of salt and light. Through these images of salt and light, this small text is asking big question: Why are we here? How are we as the Church to relate to the world? What kind of impact or influence are we as the Church supposed to have on the world? Or, to put it into a more precise form: How are we as the Church to be used by God for the good of the world? And the answer this text gives to that question is that God blesses the world through the Church's (1) identity, (2) purity, and (3) visibility.
